Zaughtilo
I have created several paths and I want to color the inside area of all of them. I recorded a short video and put it on youtube (didn't let me here). When ever I try to color it does it in the space between the nodes on the curves. How would I color the interior of all the paths? https://youtu.be/1fxFTgOEDRY
R C-R
It is hard to tell from the video but it looks like you have four individual curves. You need to make one closed curve to do what you want, for example by creating a rectangle the width of the shape, converting it to curves, & then dragging the two horizontal path edges downward with the Node tool to create the curved top & bottom edges. gdenby
To expand on what R C-R wrote: AD curve objects have 2 properties. The stroke and the fill. The fill is inside the area defined by the outermost nodes of the stroke line. In the video, the curved lines get a fill because the line and the end nodes create a boundary that encloses and area. The vertical lines don't, because they enclose no area by themselves. The easiest way to make that shape is as R C-R describes. Otherwise, 2 curve segments whose ends touch may be selected while in node tool, and joined. This must be repeated till all segments are joined. Then, the last operation is to close the curve. Zaughtilo
I did what R C-R did. Thanks for the tip :) I know what to do next time.
R C-R
Yet another, more precise way to do this: 1. Create an ellipse with the desired curvature of the top & bottom of the shape you want to fill. 2. Duplicate it & move the dup down the distance you want for the thickness of the final shape. 3. With Snapping enabled draw a rectangle centered on the horizontal edges of the two ellipses. This will have the same height as the final thickness. 4. Put the top ellipse above the rectangle in the Layers panel. 5. Select it & the rectangle & use the boolean subtract action to cut away the lower curve of the ellipse from the top of the rectangle. 6. Select the other ellipse & the rectangle & use the boolean addition action to add the bottom curve of the ellipse to the rectangle. It sounds like a lot of work but it is actually very easy to do quickly once you practice it a few times. It also automatically precisely duplicates the curvature on the top & bottom edges. This technique can be adapted to many other shapes, too. Have fun! Petar Petrenko
Because Designer still don't support envelopes (like Corel) you have to do it manually which is not very precise. R C-R
Petar, the alternate method I mentioned is very precise. Petar Petrenko
Petar, the alternate method I mentioned is very precise. The comment was about the 1st method you offer, not the 2nd where you numbered the steps. :) Sorry I was not so precise.
