julz
Hi, I've been searching around but I can't seem to find a solution: I have a a simple jpeg file with black text on white background. I want to marquee the text so that I could create a shape/s out of the text. In PS, i would simply magic wand the text, when the marquee comes out, I create paths from selection. I have looked around and I read somewhere that after selection, I can go to Selection>Outline. I can't seem to find that command in my version. I;m using ver 1.5.1.43. Is there any other workaround for this? I know different software need different approach, so I guess I need time to wrap my head around this. Also, I have tried to export the paths from PS but when I open in designer there are no paths! Thanks.
PixelPest
Hi. Not sure if you explicit need paths but after the wand selection you can add outline and color overlay via the Layer Effects tab. Cheers P.
pixelrain
You'll have to trace your letters manually, or export them as vectors from another app. The outlines and effects are rasters. PixelPest
This could be cumbersome when you know how to select and tell: Convert Selection to Path like I´m used to in GIMP eg. :D Cheers P.

Cheers P. In Affinity Photo? The OP mentions using version 1.5.1.43, which seems to refer to Affinity Designer. There is, of course, no Magic Wand Tool in AD; the closest tool would be the Selection Brush Tool in the Pixel Persona, but then you would still have the problem of stroking the selection. I think I would simply trace the letters as 'pixelrain' has suggested, and then adjust the weight of the resultant stroke. PixelPest
Why is it tagged: Photo? PS: Where did you got my quote from as I´m instantly edit my text?
Alfred
Why is it tagged: Photo? I guess the OP decided to tell us, "This is a question about a photo!" :D PS: Where did you got my quote from as I´m instantly edit my text? I took quite a while to compose my message. I must have pressed the 'MultiQuote' button just before you made your edit. ;) Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.4.1 (iPad 7th gen)
