Editing the stroke width of nodes

First of all: Affinity Designer is one of the best mac apps! I love it and I can't wait for Affinity Photo. Finally I can ditch bug-ridden Pixelmator.

You might have already seen my review in the app store in which I listed a bunch of things that I think could be improved or added, but here I want to focus on just one.

When you use a brush with size variance enabled you can control the width of the stroke while painting, but it seems like you cannot currently make changes "after the fact". What I hope to see is the ability to edit the stroke width at each node or point along the path, perhaps similar to the bezier handles.

Side note: I think there should be a "Velocity (Inverse)" setting in the "Controller" drop-down menu for the vector brush tool options but it's missing.

Thanks for stopping by!

I take it you are "temhawk"?  I read your review the first time round.  It's shame that Apple don't let us respond on the app store, else we could have replied.

A lot of what you asked for is on our roadmap.  It will get done as we get chance.  All reasonable requests.

I wrote the snapping engine, so I'm particularly interested in what you think is needed to improve that.  Some of your requests are already in the plan.  it is going to be improved over time.

As for brushes, MattP will be the one to answer this question for you...

Hi Hawk :)

Are you using a vector brush or are you in the Pixel Persona painting with a raster brush? If the latter, no you cannot change this after-the-fact as it's a pixel operation and is destructive. If it's a vector brush then you can definitely change the pressure profile afterwards to your heart's content - just go to the Stroke panel with the object selected and click the preview next to 'Pressure' and it will open a pressure editor dialog where you can modify the current curve, save it as a preset or apply a current preset to your existing curve(s). It's not possible to edit the pressure per-node at present. I'm not completely sure if it will be - really don't know... We deliberately chose our method because it's a nice way to edit the whole profile along the length of a curve, but it's obviously not ideal for per-node style editing. It's very effective for illustrations and free-form painting... I think we'll have to see how we feel about it over time.

Thanks,

Matt
