Is there actually an SDK or API that allows 3rd party developers to build interfaces?

Or a library that can be used to create thumbnails and previews from the proprietary Affinity Photo and Designer formats? Not even ImageMagick which can handle almost any file does this trick by now.

Supporting ImageMagick by helping them to understand your file formats would be a superb door opener for your products to reach commercial customers. Alternatively you might give developers a library that allow creating thumbnails and previews, maybe with a command line interface.

All the big publishing companies, photo and ad agencies with their huge numbers of users are waiting for an alternative to their costly Adobe products, but they often need to integrate with other systems. So far, they watch what you are doing but they would not switch because they could not do the integration.

I am fairly sure there is currently no SDK or publicly documented API's for Affinity. They have said the file format is considered a proprietary trade secret, so at the least third party developers would have to sign NDA's to be able to access any detailed info about it.

That said, thumbnail views are available in the Mac Finder (& as I understand it in the Windows equivalent) if the option to include them in the file is enabled in Affinity preferences when the file is saved.

I'd like to add a request for this as well.

When developing a game I like to have some assets live - where I can edit them and see the results in-game. For this, if I was using photoshop, I'd just read the .psd files whenever they change. Popular public domain image library stb_image supports psd:s, so why not? Having affinity image files supported there would be really helpful.

Also, are photoshop plugins the only way to extend affinity?

This is a must, on the longer run (not too long, hopefully). A benefit for all. Features like the missing DXF import/export feature could be left to motivated 3rd parties - there always is someone. The higher the pressure of need, the more likely.

The question is, did Serif plan an implementation all along and just pushed it back on the roadmap, or did they make the mistake not to, so this would be problematic.
I don't want to believe that Serif is short-sighted enough to block a plugin interface just for tactical business advantages only.

Come on! All these years passed and still no API / SDK available? Even support to pass files via command line to stitch panoramas / focus merge / do HDR would be extremely handy for regular users not to mention pros! It doesn't look serious on your end. No batch editing in app, no API / SDK, command line support...

Oh, wait, there is an API: https://api-docs.affinity.co/#introduction

Which is not at all related to the Affinity application suite.

Yeah, I know, SCNR 🤡

It would open up a huge market for Affinity if they had a plugin SDK or API - editorial and publishing systems of all kinds could be based on their products. We all F**king hate dislike Adobe like we F**king hated disliked Aldus and Quark in the old days. It's time for a change.
