Add layer below current layer with "optional" key

I wan't to be able to insert a new layer below the current active layer by holding some key down while clicking on the new layer icon and some other shortcut for the same as Shift+Command+N does. Inserting a layer above and afterwards dragging it in place below is annoying.

I agree! I want to keep a layer on top and not have it always moving. No satisfaction so far.

Edit: Sorry, I've just re-read your previous post with its implied question about keeping the top layer on top. To achieve that, you just need to highlight the layer below before adding a new layer.

And what if you want to add a new layer at the bottom?

"CTRL + left mouse click" on the new layer icon would be useful ...

Those buttons could be used modify the "new layer" button.

 

So how about:

 

Alt+Click = Layer below of current layer

Ctrl+click = Layer bottom of current layer stack

Shift+Click = Layer top of current layer stack
