Snowflake

Recommended Posts

Here is one of my first attempts at a focus stack. So love that they put this feature in the 1.5 update! Hoping for more opportunities to capture these amazing structures!
Info: Pentax 50mm Macro with 3 Kenko Auto Extension tubes for a total of 72mm of extension. 4 images stacked (wish I had done at least 2 more) Camera was mounted upside down underneath my tripod (centre column flipped around). Focused by slowly raising and lowering the centre column. Lit with a 900 lumens LED flashlight from the side. Cropped only the tiniest bit on the right to bring the snowflake onto the left third, otherwise this was the magnification i was getting.

… (wish I had done at least 2 more) …

Darn why?

When this was a technical exercise, I would agree but then

you could have used a ruler… simply. This way, you would

have seen  the real DOF you could achieve with the setup!

There is so much atmosphere and magic in this take that

two more shot would have rendered the mood sterile, cold,

and without charm!

Of course, this is just an opinion.

Thanks folks! And I say I'd like two more shots because then at least when I get them into AP, I can pick and choose what I want in focus, out of focus, and, by how much. :) Better to have the data than not is my philosophy.
