Vee
I am very new to Affinity and this forum. I hope I can explain the problem correctly. I have windows 10 as an operating system. I can open a file to edit it and have watched a video but not all of them. In my haste I feel I'm done something wrong. 1. Sometimes the in-painting tool does not respond as it doesn't come up with a color and remove objects. I then realised I was not on the correct layer, so I figured that out. 2. However, I have a photo where I need to remove a builders skip from the side of the picture. I can use the brush to remove it BUT whatever I remove - it seems to paste something else from within the photo to the position instead. e.g. I remove the wood and the skip, but end up with plants from another part of the photo and try to remove them. Then it paste's something else onto that place again, and so it goes on. My instincts are telling me I've inadvertently clicked on something like a paste/clone box somewhere in the package. Any ideas please? Vee
Richard S.
Vee, I think you will find that when using the Inpainting tool, it takes the surrounding pixels and uses them to replace the area you are painting. Therefore, if you try to remove an object which is too close to other distinguishable objects, you will get that effect. Hope this helps. Staff MEB Posted December 22, 2016 Staff Share Posted December 22, 2016 Hi Vee, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) The Inpainting Tool uses information from the surrounding areas of your your image to try to rebuild the subject you want to remove. The results you get depend a lot of the type of image you are working with. If you are removing a few persons from a beach taken from a certain distance, it may work quite well since there's probably a large area of sand to reconstruct the missing parts. Same for removing electricity wires and similar things. If you want to remove objects that fill a large part of the photo over busy/identifiable backgrounds the algorithms will have trouble to fill the removed area without using repeating patterns/objects. In those cases you will have to retouch and complement with other tools get better results. Try to use a smaller brush and pass two or more times over the same area to try to get better results. This however may not work in all situations without further retouching. Vee
Just found the reply. My hopes were being dashed so I added a query to the bugs section for windows a moment ago. I guess I'm just learning about the site also. Thanks for the inf. I wonder if there is a reset defaults tick box please. In case I've done anything else?
