MikeW
I have gotten grumpier as I age. I see more BS than truth in advertising and have had a growing tendency to call it out as I have gotten older. I have criticized Serif for some of their choices over the years and it didn't stop with the introduction of AD, either. (The same applies to other software companies as well.) In an effort to provide a slightly more balanced view, I would like to commend Serif for their efforts in how well they do certain things in AD. As a font author, I widely test fonts and their OpenType features in many applications--wherein I usually find errors in the respective companies' implementation of OT Features. Some are gross errors, some are a bit esoteric and likely would affect only a few users. One application I can rely upon for testing OT Features is AD. Testing fonts in AD has allowed me to notify other companies about their various issues in processing OT Features. A couple of these companies are respectful and once the error is demonstrated (usually involving a bit of back and forth via emails), the problem is acknowledged and at some point is corrected. Only one company has neither acknowledged nor rectified their application issues. A couple have acknowledged the problem and basically wrote back that they will not be fixing the problem. Writing and testing OT Features can be a very time-consuming process. It is comforting to me to know I can rely on AD before disappearing down the rabbit hole of altering OT coding. A hearty thank you to all at Serif involved in type. Mike Chris B and MJSfoto1956
