RAW Developing – Destructive or Non Destructive

Recommended Posts

Hi, last week I bought Affinity for Windows and I am really happy with the software. For now, I am watching the multiple videos that you have with great interest at the address http://www.miguelboto.com/affinity/photo/video-tutorials/ and I really enjoy them.

The only question that I have and I am sure this question has been asked before is when you open a raw file and apply exposure, contrast, filters and layers etc is it non destructive or the changes are applied to the raw file? After applying those changes should I save the image as an Affinity photo and discard the changes made to the raw file?

Thank you

Hi artofmtl,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Affinity Photo never touches the RAW file. When you click Develop all changes you have made are applied/baked to/in the image which is then moved to Photo Persona. You have to save the file there as an .afphoto file or export it in other format to keep the changes you have made in Develop Persona (and Photo Persona if you also have made changes there).
