agranam
I'd skipped the beta and waited for the retail version, but now that I've bought it I can't instal it! I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 with 16gb of RAM. Aero is enabled. Click on the installer and I get an instant popup "setup cannot continue because a previous installation requires your computer to be restarted. Please restart your computer and rerun setup." I've tried that several times, and of course I wouldn't be here now if I'd managed to get past that. I then get a Program Compatibility Assistant popup "if this program didn't instal correctly try reinstalling using settings that are compatible with this version of Windows." There's an option to 'use recommended settings', click on that and I'm back at square one - setup cannot continue....... It was recommended that I try again in safe mode, and that does go a little differently, albeit not far. Files are unpacked to instal .NET framework 4.6.2...a process which abruptly ends with an error code 5100. Aaaargh........
jhoy
Hi Agranam Could you advise if your Windows is a 32 or 64 bit version please as the Affinity software will only install on a 64 bit version of windows with a 64 bit compatible processor. agranam
Ooops, forgot to mention that bit, yes it's 64 bit. And in doing further research I've discovered that the original response from the installer about previous installations and restarting is a typical failure of the .NET framework installation, so it seems my problem lies there and not with Affinity Photo itself. Tried getting through to Microsoft support but it was an 88 minute wait time so after a few bad words I put it off for another day..... jhoy
Hi Agranam Could you try the following please Agranam. Bring up your Windows task manager, go to the processes tab, look down the list for msiexec.exe when found select it and then click the end task button, if need be confirm the end task, close the task manager and try again to install the software. agranam
Thanks for the suggestion but msiexec.exe doesn't even start. All I get is a pair of dllhost.exe, which disappear once I've clicked OK on the failure to instal popup.
jhoy
Hi Agrnam The only other thing I can think of to get the program installed would be to run your Windows in a limited mode using msconfig Agrnam, I have put a set of instructions below for you to follow. 1. Press the Windows key and the letter R 2. Type MSCONFIG and click OK 3. Click the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services" and click Disable All 4. Click Apply 5. Click the Startup tab 6. Make a note of all the items that are checked and unchecked - you will need to restore these later 7. Click Disable All, click Apply and click OK/Close 8. Restart your computer when prompted 9. Install the application 10. Repeat steps 1 and 2 11. Click the Services tab, make sure "Hide all Microsoft services" is checked and click Enable All 12. Click Apply 13. Click the Startup tab 14. Recheck the items that you noted down as being checked 15. Click Apply and click OK/Close 16. Restart your computer when prompted. agranam
Sorry for the tardy response, my week got kinda nuts. Carefully followed steps 1 through 8 but fell at 9 - just like the safe mode attempt, the .NET framework installation failed with error code 5100. Kinda looking like I have to go back to trying to get help from Microsoft doesn't it?
jhoy
Hi Agranam Before going to Microsoft could you try downloading the .NET framework independently using the link below to see if this will install from the Microsoft website. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53344 John
agranam
Yay, it worked! And doh for not thinking of that myself.... And for anyone following this thread with the same problem, the first two attempts to install the .NET framwork failed with the original previous installation/reboot error, but the third attempt - after the requested reboots - worked. If at first you don't succeed etc etc etc..... stokerg

agranam
And thankyou John for working with me, I appreciate the help. Maybe you should be running a Technical Support forum???????
tedkins
Hi, John, I have the same problem as agranum and have followed the last set of instructions concerning downloading and installing the required .NET. However, when the .NET is installing I get exactly the same error message about something not completed and to re-start the computer!!! Needless-to-say, that doesn't fix it. Is there any way to find the file(s) which are causing the problem?
agranam
Did you try the .NET installation more than once? It was my third try when it finally worked.........
adammc190
The instructions from jhoy also worked for me on Windows 10 setting up the 1.6.2 version.
