Layer mask bug

Recommended Posts

I came across a masking bug today.

When applying a mask to a layer, group, vector or pixel object, then lower the opacity of the layer/group/object, the mask seems to apply a colour burn effect as well as decreases the opacity further on the layer/object.

I've attached a video and the Affinity file for reference.

I think what's happening here is that changing the opacity is affecting the layer and the mask separately instead of as one entity. I'll get this one logged.

There are a couple of ways around this in the meantime:

1. Instead of a rectangle as a mask using a mask layer will work as expected

2. Clip the rectangle mask to the pixel object within the layer then use the opacity setting for the main layer

Thanks Chris_K, I'll use the mask layer as per your suggestion in the meantime. I did however experience a bug when using the mask layer, see video. The document canvas doesn't seem to update correctly when applying an object to the mask layer or when removing an object from the mask layer. If I release the mask object below the mask layer, the canvas doesn't update correctly (or sometimes at all), but if I release the mask object above the mask layer, canvas updates correctly.
