DavidMac
For quite some time I have noticed an inconsistency in layer duplication whereby if a layer was duplicated with a selection present sometimes only the selected area would duplicate and sometimes the entire layer would duplicate ignoring the selection. It seemed completely random. It isn't ...... I have finally discovered what is going on and it's very odd. If I duplicate using Layer > Duplicate or using the shortcut Cmd J the selection is respected and only the selected area is duplicated (which I presume is how it should be). If I duplicate by right clicking in the Layers Palette and selecting Duplicate from the context menu the selection is ignored and the entire layer is duplicated. Now at last I figured out what is going on it's no problem. In fact it could even be considered as quite useful to have the two different modes of duplication. However I suspect this isn't intentional. I wondered if anyone else had come across this ........ and whether it needs reporting to the top cats. Alfred
If you have a layer which is showing as '(Image)' in the Layers panel, then it is a single object and duplicating it will duplicate the entire object (even if you have a selection marquee showing on the image). When you rasterize it so that it shows as '(Pixel)' in the Layers panel, duplication will give you a duplicate of only the selected pixels. DavidMac
Yes that I know. But that is not the case here. The behaviour is exactly as I have described with a pixel layer selected.
Alfred
I meant to say you probably already knew that, David! I'm sorry I don't have any other suggestions. carl123
Works as expected on Windows AP Duplicate Layer just duplicates the selected area no matter which way you do it Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum.
