Affinity Photo 1.5 has launched!

I have AP 1.4.3 installed on my iMac and cannot find any information how to upgrade it to AP 1.5, went into Apple App Store and there is no upgrade/Buy option, it only has the open option.  So how do I upgrade to AP 1.5?

+1 - did this get resolved.  I am finding the same thing.  Im in Australia so is this part of the issue I wonder ?

I had the same issue. ⌘R while on the app store update page did not refresh the updates showing. A restart selected from the  menu was all that was needed. The next visit to the app store showed the waiting updates correctly.

Hi FishermansFriend,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

No, the updates are free until version 2.0. Minor updates (1.6, 1.7, 1.x) are free. Major updates are paid (2.0, 3.0 etc).

All this time, I thought the updates of the launched retail version of that last decimal were all that counted as free updates (1.5, then 1.5.x). I didn't realize that 1.6 and over would be free too. God I love Affinity.

The website is still a work in progress. The "Comics" and "Shop" sections are not yet ready. Feel free to connect with me and let me know what you like or what can be improved. You can contact me here, on my contact page, YouTube channel, or Twitter account. Thanks and have a great day!

Thanks for the ultimate PS killer. Macro-batch and layered .tifs were the last holdovers for using CS5.5. I can lay that to rest now. Thanks for listening to what your customers want and need.

Initial experiments with a short (10 file) z-stack were rather impressive. PS was useless for serious macro stacking, AP is on par with ZereneStacker on short stacks. Will have to run some larger stacks (50-150 files) through it, then we'll see for sure.

Cudos!

Hi,

why version 1.5.0.43 became 1.5.1.43 instead of 1.5.1(.0)?

I now have bought a Affinity Photo, and I hope that will be the end of Adobe CC for me. Unfortunately we are told that there are no plans for Twain support (for import via scanner). I shall have to resort to my legacy PS5 for this.

Isn't the "best" way for importing via scanner to use the scanning software provided with the scanner?  I understand why you would want to retain the ability to invoke your scanner directly from AP but it is surely not a great amount of additional work to scan to folder from your scanner's software and then simply open the image in AP?

You don't need it. Buy VueScan, do most of the job with it and use APh only if you need additional correction which is not supported via scanner.

Ideed VueScan (run by a single person - the market leader since ages) is the finest stuff around to tackle this theme.

Scanning from the Photo software is certainly convenient. Emmrecs01 suggests I use the software supplied with the scanner. What software? Canon provides several utilities for my MP630 Printer/Scanner, but these do not include a separate scanner program.

I have tried VueScan. It looks a good product. Ideally I would like to copy the scanned image in VueScan, and paste into Photo, but no luck there. I would have to go with the Pro version which will scan from my film scanner as well. This will cost me more than Photo!

@John Rostron,

I have to admit I've never before come across a scanner that does not include the specialist software to allow scanning to file.  Having looked quickly at the support pages for your model, I see there is not one!  My apologies!

How to update a v.1.4.3 to 1.5 ?

I hope I won't have to pay again.

Of course not. Similar to what MEB said earlier, the only paid updates would have to have a different first integer (1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and so on). Any update in the 1.xxx is a free update.

So to update, do you have a Windows or Mac computer? For Mac, you check the Updates section in the App Store. For Windows, I'm not sure.

Edit:

Nevermind. For Windows, I forgot about this topic. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30048-how-do-we-get-affinity-store-windows-updates/

I purchased 1.4x with the understanding/promise that V1.5 would be a free upgrade.

You state that it is a free upgrade in the App Store.

No, it is not.  It's $40

How do I get the FREE upgrade I was promised?  Sorry if I sound a bit terse, but I have been taken by promises like this before.

Given your company's reputation, I expected to receive the update.

So, how do we proceed?

Thanks for your time.Tom McElvy

Tommc4,

I think you should post this in the Questions section. It sounds like there is something going wrong. It goes against what MEB said earlier.

Are you sure you're looking in the right place?

Open "App Store" on your Mac and select "Updates" from the menu at the top.

After a bit of searching the store, it should show Affinity Photo, Version 1.5.1 as the latest available update. I updated from 1.4.3 to 1.5.0 to 1.5.1 without any trouble at all and without charge.

I was beyond ecstatic to discover AP will open My PEF files and the RAW converter is a very good performer. Finally I can work with a real PEF RAW file instead of a wonnabee DNG. This is important to me as my Pentax 645D is no longer an orphan. Thanks Serif/Affinity Photo.

Same here - but it won't happen (at least for me) until the developing 'persona' is non-destructive, there is a thumbnail browser and support for Photoshop plugins with 16bit images. That said, I'm happy to have bought it and look forward to future enhancements.

Great first release!

This software is painfully slow...

It takes up to 3 minutes for it to change personas on a single image. How do you expect me to get through 500 images? It will take me an extra 3 days of just waiting on your software to wake up, before i can get a shoot's images edited

This is definitely the photoshop killer i was hoping for.

Your whole selling point was that PS is old and slow code, yet your new code is much worse.

Editing in ACR is also much faster in terms of the bulk i can achieve with it – select all images, bulk edit sliders (IN REALTIME -  NO WAITING). In yours i change a setting on one image, wait, wait, wait then change change again - one at a time... Have you guys even seen how slow turning something like CA is to activate, wow thats almost a 2min wait on its own.

And no its not my i7 and 32gig pc that the problem. PS works fine on it.
