judy jj
Hello everyone, I am new here and looking forward to learning lots about Affinity. I am also new to Affinity though I have been able to do some simple photo editing up until today. I am sorry to be posting such an elementary question but after an hour of trying to sort this out myself, and searching online, i am desperate for some help so I can move forward. My problem is that I have opened a (jpeg) photo in Photo Affinity and am unable to select it with the move tool. I have tried wrapping a marquee around the photo, clicking inside it but nothing happens. At the top left hand side of the screen it says 'No selection'. I want to be able to make the image smaller to put it into my website. I have done this before but really don't know what is happening today. I have tried 'selecting all' and that doesn't work. I have thought it might be a layer problem but it is showing the background layer is ticked. When I have been able to select the item there are little boxes at the corners of the image with crosses in them. then when I get rid of that by clicking outside the image I am back to the beginning, unable to select the image. hoping someone can help, sorry its a bit longwinded. Staff MEB Posted December 1, 2016 Staff Share Posted December 1, 2016 Hi judy jj, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) The crosses you see on the corners means the layer is locked. In the Layers panel click on the padlock icon on the right of the layer's name to unlock it. If you want to resize the whole document (not just that image layer) go to menu Document ▸ Resize Document.... judy jj 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
R C-R
In Preferences > User Interface, there is an option to "Automatically lock background layer on import." This is on by default, so unless you turn it off, when you open a jpeg file for the first time, its single layer will be locked & you will not be able to select it until you unlock it as MEB described.
