Raymondo
Hi After using the beta AP version 1.5 for a few days I have a few things as a designer that I would like to point out. 1) When using the blur - Zoom blur does not create enough blur effect without having to repeat and repeat blur. Should be fully controllable from the slider as in Photoshop. 2) After trying the different blur effects I don't find the effects that much different from each other, to me some seem to just reproduce the same or near effect so can't see a need for some of these. 3) Cannot save new profiles in FX. This is a minus and should be addressed. There quite a few in Photoshop which help produce different results. No pattern or satin effect in FX. Again these need to be included soon from a creative view point. No blending option - blend if option in layer styles. This is something that again is very useful
Raymondo
One other thing, In Photoshop you have the choice to enlarge the thumbnail in layers but there doesn't appear a facility to do the same in AP. With regard to the above post you may have an answer to some of these hidden in the software somewhere, if so please let know.
anon1
at least blend if is available in AP and even better than in PS because you have direct control over the blend curve https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/17364-blend-if-blend-ranges/?p=79182
Raymondo
Yeah, not using AP enough at the moment to really tell which method is the most effective, PS or AP. At the moment using a curve graph method maybe slightly over engineering a fairly simply process. There is considerably control using the sliders. That said I think I need to replicate a couple of real time projects in both programs and make a more informed opinion then as to which is more effective, straight forward and easy to use. Raymondo
After having done a couple of test projects I must concede that the blend curve results are superior to Photoshop. I'm always open to being challenged. The team are on track, well done lads....and girls (just in case). Rusty Arrow and anon1
Mark Ingram
Hi, when you apply a filter, you often get a tool panel appear in the bottom right corner of the document. In the case of the Zoom Blur filter, you get a panel with a radius slider allowing you to adjustment the amount of blur. This probably explains why you don't see much difference with the other filters, they will all be using low values by default.
Raymondo
With all due respect my friend I do see these panels, my comments were that they are not effective enough even at full strength. I am a photoshop designer of some years and often have to produce effective lighting results from car headlights, street lamps, sunshine rays in photo manipulation and illustration. The blur effect, even at full strength does not dissipate far enough out and tends to end too abruptly that's why you have to repeat the blur in order to push the effect out more. You should not have to do this. In short the zoom blur needs to be able to push out the effect more from the slider. As for some of the other blur effects, some are ok but there are also some which I, and I say personally don't see the point of in their current form. It's not that I don't see the difference with the other blur filters, it's more that they are too similar in results. So for me, as good as AP is, it has some catching up to do in the effects department and means I have to stick with Photoshop for now until I can be sure that commercially It can cope with the creative demands of professional image manipulation and illustration. Mark Ingram
Hi, you can type whatever value you like into the text box to the side of the slider.
Alfred
Couldn't the slider be tweaked to cover a greater range, perhaps on a logarithmic scale so that we still have fine control at the lower end? PaulAffinity 1 Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 16.7.2 (iPad 7th gen)
