GravelMonkey
I just purchased Affinity Designer from Apple Apps. It downloaded and started after I clicked OPEN from the Apple App. I started a trial document and everything worked fine. I closed the project and the application. Now I cannot open the application from my Mac. I tried starting from Launch Pad and from the Applications folder in Finder. I also went back to the Apple App page and tried to open it from there No luck. I am new to a Mac so maybe I need to do something else to get the computer to recognize the app.
Staff Callum Posted November 17, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 17, 2016 Hi GravelMonkey, Welcome to the Forums :) When you click the icon does the context bar at the top of your Mac say Affinity Designer? If so the app hasn't been closed and you can go to File > New to open a document :) (See attached) If that doesn't work please could you hold down the CTRL key while opening the program until a reset menu appears. If you click Select All and then Clear the program will reset to defaults which may hopefully solve your issue C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP. R C-R
If you are new to the Mac, you may not be aware that closing an app is not the same thing as quitting it. To over-simplify a bit, when you close an app's window(s) the app itself usually remains "open" in the sense that it is still ready to open a new or existing document without the need to take the time to reload it (the app) from the hard drive & initialize it again like when you first launch it. (Some apps automatically quit when you close their only or last open window but most, including the Affinity ones, do not.) This is why you sometimes see the app's splash screen when you double-click on a document to open it but other times do not.
