Mask error?

Hello,


 


I have a problem with the mask function. To illustrate this as clearly as possible, I would like to illustrate this by means of a practical example in which I proceed step by step. Maybe someone can help me?


 


First, I set a dog free with the pickup brush.

Then I go on Refine edges.

I refine the mask and set the output to New Layer with Mask.

The mask is done.

Now I create a new layer with a gradient and place it under the mask.

I want to refine a bit later and click on the mask with the right mouse button on Refine mask. Then I get this:

I think the reason therefor is the mark Follow contrast limits. Ok, I can disable it so then it looks like this:

But if I want to change the mask for some reason, the detached pixels are still present. In any case, the mask looks different.


 


I must say I'm pretty irritated.


 


By the way, Affinity Photo started out on my longer experiment, spinning around and showed, among other things, this result:
