voidsea
The drawing will tear apart in the middle of drawing view causing a minor displacement of images. I've tried different render settings but the problem persists. Below is a screenshot of this problem. Those purple lines are added by me. I'm on Win10 x64 build 14931, with Affinity Designer 1.5.0.36 RC. The Boss is watching you.
Staff Sean P Posted November 16, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 16, 2016 Hi Voidsea,Unfortunately this has been an issue experienced by a small handful of users, but it is one we're unable to reproduce. The tiles that get drawn to the screen are slightly misaligned causing what you are seeing - if you export your document it will look as you expect. Would you be able to attach the System Information file from %AppData%\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Beta)\ Thanks
voidsea
Here it is. SystemInformation.txt And I found this in the log.txt: Attempting to create Direct3D device on default adapter Setting screen DPI to 113.413953488372 (scale = 1.25) The Boss is watching you. Staff Sean P Posted November 16, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 16, 2016 Thanks for that! Looking at the specs inside the text file it appears as though your laptop is running an NVidia 650m graphics chip. What version of the NVidia drivers are you running? If you bring up the NVidia control panel and click 'System Information' in the bottom left it should show you in the dialog that appears.
voidsea
NVidia 650m driver version is 369.09 (driver version in Device Manager properties dialog is 21.21.13.6909). But the Render setting of Affinity Designer is set to Intel HD Graphics 4000. (driver version 10.18.10.4358). The Boss is watching you.
Staff Sean P Posted November 16, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 16, 2016 Can you change the render setting of Affinity Designer to use the NVidia 650m and see if that sorts the issue. Besides that you should get much better performance using the NVidia as opposed to the onboard Intel chip. If you play a lot of games or use 3d applications it might be worth taking a look at your system to make sure it uses the NVidia card as primary graphics adaptor otherwise you could be missing out on a lot of benefits of the NVidia chip. voidsea
I've tried setting Affinity Deisgner to use 650m, but the issue persists. After I set the zoom setting to 100% in system's settings (normally I set this to 125%), the glitch disappeared. Migth this be the source of the problem? The Boss is watching you. Mark Ingram
The cause of the bug is the 125% zoom. Anything other than an even 100% will cause this problem (e.g. 100%, 200%, etc are OK) matt.baker
voidsea
Has this problem been fixed in the Release version? I'm considering purchase a license to switch from Fireworks to Affinity Designer. The Boss is watching you.
Mark Ingram
Not yet, though we plan on doing it soon. The only work around for the screen tear is to use 100% or 200% Windows scaling.
