visualsbysina
In photoshop we have the 'info' pane, which tells you the X Y coordinates of your cursor position. We don't have this in affinity, and we also have a less accurate (more sparsely labeled) ruler to make matters worse. Additionally, there is no ruler tool to measure things. This makes it extremely difficult to make precise changes especially for corporate and web design work. It's starting to seem like Affinity is better suited for freeform graphics rather than precision. Please add these features.
Staff MEB Posted November 11, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 11, 2016 Hi visualsbysina, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) I'm not sure about which program are you talking about. Are you referring to Affinity Photo for Windows? You can enable the Info panel going to menu View ▸ Studio ▸ Info. You can also add more samplers there if you need to. There's also a Transform panel available to change/view the width/height, rotation etc in the same menu. You can measure distances between elements pressing ctrl and mouse hovering the elements you are interested in. Make sure you have snapping enabled to make this work. visualsbysina
Thanks MEB, I was referring to Designer.
Staff MEB Posted November 11, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 11, 2016 Ok, thanks for the clarification. There's no info panel in Designer but the snapping/smart guides should help you to align/position elements with precision. I advise you to check out the Design Aids section (12) in the In-house Affinity Designer Video Tutorials thread. It covers grids, snapping and a few more topics. If you have questions/suggestions or find trouble with anything just post in the forums. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
visualsbysina
Thanks, I will check out the link, but please consider how important these features are for designers who require absolute precision. Snapping/smart guides can only be as precise as the measurements you let us set them at, and the information we get from the application which tells us where we are setting these guides.
