Smokey
Have just downloaded Affinity Photo. Am currently using PhotoPlus 8.Use the crop function many times. Take photos of Bowlers in the Green from a distance and crop to show the content/their action. Initially I thought the way this worked would be easier than 8. But the way when you crop and get a darker background than the area you wish to use, is, in my opinion better. Now I am not sure if this is a case of "What you are used to" clouding one's judgement. I would be interested on what others think. Overall first impressions are favourable. Loading screen reminds me of "Photoshop.." I know, perhaps I should wash my mouth out! carl123
There is a little "hidden" arrow at the far right of the crop settings that allows you to "Darken Border". I think that may give you the effect you are used to. Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. Alfred
There is a little "hidden" arrow I think that's just down to your display settings, Carl. The 'Darken Border' checkbox is directly accessible here. Smokey
Oh great, the wife complains about my Settings and says she can hardly see what to me is apparent, Hey Ho!
Moscool
The 'little arrow' varies with your window size: if it's large enough for all the options to display then it won't appear. What is more worrying (for me) is that the 'darken border' check box is nowhere to be seen, independently of my window size...
Staff MEB Posted November 16, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 16, 2016 Hi Moscool Have you scaled you display (right-click the Desktop, select Display Settings, first slider - what's the scale you are using?) And what's the resolution of your display? Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Moscool
Nope, it's the default value. Writing this on my MBP 13 inch Retina. Closed AP, reopened with a fresh document (print settings). I attach a screenshot of the crop tool: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qvxk7bjcoa29qdg/Screen%20Shot%202016-11-16%20at%2012.40.44.png?dl=
Smokey
Am playing around with "little arrows." I can see that the crop method is similar to other versions of PhotoPlus WHEN you work it out!
Staff MEB Posted November 16, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 16, 2016 Hi Moscool, I assumed (wrongly) you were using Photo Beta for Windows, so my previous question didn't make much sense, sorry. Thanks for the screenshot. The Darken Border option is only available in Affinity Photo Beta for now. You are using the Mac App Store version which doesn't have it yet. Moscool
Didn't even know there was a Beta doing the rounds...
Staff MEB Posted November 16, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 16, 2016 Yes, there is. They are available from the Affinity Beta Support section, pinned at the top of the respective section, but the next Mac App Store update for Affinity Photo is coming in a couple weeks, so you may prefer to wait a little more. It will include all the changes/improvements introduced in the Beta. Moscool 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
