Do you know the reason for this? • Hi Sharkey, I appreciate very much to see the face of the one I'm taking to! :) :) :) I think you are referring to the DoF zoning that is "intensified" visually and vertically by the presence of the snow in the scenes; normally always present but hardly noticeable under normal light conditions. Trees and bushes are vertical growths and, as such, create vertical lines. Branches and twigs are not all at the same distance from the lens so they will appear alternatively more or less soft focused. In common situations, the eye oversees the banding because the brightness scale is rather normal given the tonalities range between light and shadows but here, the same tonalities range is exacerbated by the high key reflection of the snow. The same effect is visible (horizontally) when looking at a scene with evergreen trees. There, though, light penetration is even less. An other point comes here: the relative thickness of the fog the further away objects are from the viewer. I hope this answers your question! Quite happy to create such interest… but in a forum specialized in visual arts, I wonder why it generates so few comments, reactions. I think because this is a forum that is supposed to be about showing off what you created with the affinity software. I should think that most people here are looking to find inspiration and help on how to use the software that this forum is here to support. Maybe letting people know how you used the affinity software to process your work would get people asking questions or giving more feedback :) Love your work BTW. This observation was brought to me before, maybe even in a other thread and I addressed that saying: "As a photographer —and on this forum more a wildlife photographer— I use AP's inpainting, healing, and clone brushes to remove debris or anything that is not contribu- ting positively to the final rendition of a picture. Most of my post-production is done in Capture One (great RAW con- verter but not a pixel editor). For pixel editing, since I do not use ANY adobe products anymore, my chosen app is Affinity Photo… very pleased with the results so far! ;) As SrPx wisely put it: —"To each his own, but 819 views is already a deep reverence to your work.... :) Take it as silent, deep compliment... Photos just appear better by default compared to Lightroom. And the colour science for adjustments is pretty amazing. Then for the special pictures such as portraits I used to use Photoshop. Now I'm using Affinity Photo. I have been a spare photographer on a couple of weddings and Capture One has allowed me to work quickly with hundreds of images with minimal work. After 40 years being a pro, I think I'm getting the hang of it I also use Capture One. Photos just appear better by default compared to Lightroom.
