kevinmcsherry
Hi all, I saw on another post that 'Artistic' filters such as Cutout are on the roadmap but does anybody know a workaround to get something approaching the 'Cutout' filter result using the current tools? As below: CMM 1 Quote Using: Mac OSX Monterey on a Mac Mini (late 2014). Wacom Bamboo. Mouse. Pencils. Pens. Other stuff... Kevin McSherry: Creative. gdenby
Maybe add a "posterize" adjustment layer? Set blend mode to luminosity and levels to 4 or less. kevinmcsherry
And after add a Median blur -that gets us quite close! You're a star! gdenby
I'm glad it is helping you. I'm still working thru the subtleties of the blend modes, and have barely scratched the surface of the adjustment layers. After looking at the "cutout" filter, it occurred to me that it was some form of posterization. I liked the results from luminosity for most of the samples I tried. The range of hues in the original image make the number of posterization levels vary from image to image. Some work well w. posterization down to 2, but 1 seems rather extreme. kevinmcsherry
This is as far as I got with this exercise (There's a tutorial on Youtube where a guy uses Photoshop with its artistic filter and who gives links to these fonts I'm using). In the end, I just did several rounds of using median blur, posterise, Brightness/contrast, adding noise and finally cleaning up unnecessary detail with the clone brush. I also deleted the sky and part of the water and replaced it with a gradient. Luckily it wasn't pissing rain when I took the photo. Welcome to Dublin. Artmole
I played a bit around with this just now, but in Desinger, but i imagine the same workflow could work in Photo. I Just added to the recipe above: posterize (max 4 levels) Some kind of blur Rasterize Image posterize again. Hope this can help some of you out there!
