Not actually a bug but ...

Recommended Posts

I've been try this software for some time and, for my simple needs, am finding it overly complicated.

Drawplus X8 is a focussed vector drawing package and all I need.

Pageplus X9 is a focussed documentation package and again all I need.

The basic functionality I get with these is totally obscured in Affinity by all the masses of other functionality that I do not need.

If it could be considered a bug I would like functionality filtered according to one's need, e.g. select 'Document Management' and get only the relevant subset of necessary functionality.

To me Affinity is a case of, "too many eggs in one basket".

Hi Chyaweth,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Affinity Designer is not a replacement for those two apps. If you need a reference it would be only comparable to DrawPlus only. We will have a dedicated application later to produce text heavy documents/publications called Affinity Publisher (comparable to PagePlus). Affinity is a new line of software created from scratch that does not share any code with the Plus line. As such you may find some features in Affinity that are not present in Plus products and vice-versa.

Affinity Designer in particular is a (focused) vector based design (graphic/web/UI)/illustration package that includes some pixel/raster based tools which you can take advantage as a complement to the traditional vector tools (for more organic effects/shading etc). It's not intended to be used for publications/layouts that depend/rely on large text blocks/text flowing. It also includes features/panels for specific purposes like Constraints for UI/Webdesign but you can disable them in the menu View ▸ Studio if you don't intend to use them.

Interestingly, most Plus users criticise Affinity for having too few 'eggs' in its basket... Affinity has far less features than the Plus products (if you choose to count them)
