Masking Challenge

How can I prevent the "building" image from appearing outside the "frame" on the attached screenshot?

The inside of the frame image is transparent (transparent png).

 

I believe there must be a way to mask the outside of the frame but cannot figure it out.  I've spent hours googling and watching videos with no luck!

Hi. You can clip it to the frame.
Click and hold the layer of the building and place it on the layer of the frame. Just a little nudge to the right and you can see the layer is clipped.

How do you clip it to the shape of the frame, not just to the rectangular shape of the frame's base box? :unsure:

Sorry, I was too quick. I didn't realize that you couldn't do that to a pixel layer. 

 

Well, until someone chimes in, do this; under the building layer.  Use the pen tool to make a roughly selection that follows the form of the frame. On the context toolbar click "mask"
Then click drag it on top of the building. Nudge it a little to the right.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback and advice.  Yes, Madame's solution worked!  

 

Unfortunately this approach doesn't allow for easy repositioning of the photo under the frame as I move other items around on my canvas but it is functional.

There is a way.. I'm not so good to explain though.

 

When you make the shape with the pen tool. In stead of output to mask, you can drag the shape on top of the building layer (and nudge it to the right). Then use the move tool. On the context toolbar with the clipped layer selected, press convert to curves and tick lock children.

 

Then you can manipulate the building inside the shape.
