Can't clip to stroke

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm encountering a few issues with this drawing. I'll add the file below.

1) Can't clip to stroke: I have a rounded rectangle shape with only a stroke and no fill. Tried to clip another stroked shape to this object by dragging it on top in the layers panel. It clipped in the panel, but was placed underneath without cliping on the canvas (as if a regular layer underneath). Expandend the stroke of the parent and clipping woked fine.

2) Move tool always selects object even where cropped with vector crop or 'absent' (donut hole of expanded rounded rectangle).

Working in beta .24

1. It may well be a positioning thing - when you're trying to drag the object to the shape you want to clip to try and place the cursor in the centre of the preview. You will see the blue bar move to indicate where it will go - you'll want the blue vertical bar. The clipped region also depends on whether the clipping object as a Stroke, Fill or Both and it will only clip to the areas that have a Stroke or Fill. See my attached file.

2. This is an issue we're already aware of. If you want to select an object that is behind another you can hold Ctrl and then click to select objects behind.

Hi Sean,

Isn't the vertical blue stroke to apply an object as a mask, equivalent to 'mask to below'? I was trying to place the thinner shadow line within another stroke, kind of like you would clip a pixel shadow layer to a vector shape (horizontal blue line).

Your clipping file crashes the .25 beta when clicking te clipped elements in the layers panel. Does it look like it's supposed to?post-34763-0-71177300-1476829889_thumb.png

Ahh sorry! I'm with you now. Unfortunately this is not possible to do within the software. The reason the expand works is because it takes the stroke and converts it to a 'Filled' object rather than a line with a stroke.

That's strange - I've just downloaded my attachment and opened it and can select the objects without a problem! Is this a consistent crash for you? The screenshot you've attached however, does look correct.
