Andi D.
If i open a RAW-File (from my Alpha 58) with AFPhoto and save it – without any changes – the size of the file is extremely large ! From 20 MB (standard-file/PSD-file) to 150 MB (after saving in AFPhoto) ! I open the file in Affinity Photo and press „develop“ (in German its called „entwickeln“ !) … and then i just save the file. Is there anything wrong ? I cant’t believe that the file size is the real result ?!? thx for help
Staff Lee D Posted October 13, 2016 Staff Share Posted October 13, 2016 Hi Andi D, Welcome to the forums. You may want to have a read of this thread as it has posts from our devs explaining the reasons behind our file format. You can always attach a link to one of your file for us to take a look at. Fixx
16-bit RGB 5456 x 3632 px image without any compression should be 113,4 MB. AP adds some overhead for proxy images etc.
Andi D.
@Lee D and Fixx: thanks for your feedback. I know that an uncompressed file ist big, but why do AF that ? Whats the reason ? Is that necessary ? I got about 5000+ RAW files on my Mac. If i mutiply them x 3 … i can change my disk … just for the same pics.
Staff Lee D Posted October 13, 2016 Staff Share Posted October 13, 2016 Check to see if you have Save History with Document enabled on the File menu, this can have an effect on the overall file size. Snapshots created by the app can also increase the file size, this is with the devs to look into.
Fixx
There is certain sense in storing photos in moderately compact RAW and using catalog/develop app like LR or Aperture to export big image files only as needed.
