Is there a way to do duplex (2-sided) printing in Affinity Designer?

I have created 2 x A4 sized Artboards and would like them to be printed on each side of an A4 sheet. The printer supports duplex printing but I cannot find a way to get Affinity to stop trying to print both Artboards on a single side of A4.

Hi Mark_W,

We currently have an issue with artboards and printing that will have an effect on duplex printing, it's currently with the developers to resolve. Usually, it's just a case of setting up duplex printing on the Print window, I would advise to make sure you're running the latest drivers for your printer to allow all printing options, such as duplex to be shown.

In the meantime if you export to PDF and then open in a PDF viewer you should be able to print duplex.

Hope this helps

Hi there guys,

Do we still have this problem? Because when i am printing 2 page sheet it divides work into to and print right half of 1st artboard and left half of 2nd artboard into a page.

What I initially wanted is not resolved. For example: You create 2 x A4-size Artboards, one to print on the front side of a piece of A4 paper and the other to print on the reverse side. You select both of them.

In the printer dialog I set the printer to A4 duplex double-sided printing (which works for all other programs, it is not a printer driver problem). In the 'what to print' I select 'Selection'. So far so good; I can see a blue printer area box containing both Artboards. But the small preview only shows one of the Artboards and that is the only one that is printed. The other options are 'Document' or the individual Artboards, Which print a single Artboard only. If you change Scaling the 'Selection' option will print both Artboards onto the same front side of the sheet.

My work-around has been to save both Artboards as PDF's. Then join them together in a single PDF using PDF-Merge. Then print the document from my PDF Viewer which does not have any problem with duplex 2-sided printing.

It's been a year since the issue was first raised and there have been a few Designer updates since then. Now on release 1.6.1.93

So I decided to try again and see if it is now possible to do duplex printing (print on both sides of a sheet) - It isn't; I just wasted a lot of paper.

So I'll keep saving Artboards as PDF's, then merging them into a single PDF, and printing that using my duplex-enabled printer.

Thanks Julien,

You reminded me about the duplex printing issue. I had forgotten about it as I rarely needed it and I had a work-around of saving individual artboards as images then loading them into a blank Word or Publisher document for printing them. Luckily for me I only ever needed duplex printing for A4 artboards, so I had no scaling issues.

There have been a lot of updates since 2016. Your reply prompted me to try it again and, whoopee, you are right - It's been fixed and works.

Thanks - Latecomers to the party are always welcome, especially if they are bearing good news. We can now consider this thread as closed.
