I need to replace Aperture.  Does Affinity serve as a library for photos?  If not, which applications allow Affinity as an external editor and preserve the original RAW or NEF files for future editing?

Hi AOK111,

Welcome to the forums.

Affinity Photo has a built in Media Browser which will read Photo's library files you can also add folders to it by dragging them into the window.

Hope this helps

Does that mean we can add folders to Apple Photos via the media browser?

Hi AOK111,

Affinity Photo is a RAW converter/developer and photo editing application. It's doesn't manage libraries as Aperture or Lightroom, however you can access Aperture (and Apple Photo/iPhoto Libraries as well as individual folders) as Lee D pointed out through the Media Browser. You can use Affinity Photo with any application that supports editing in an external editor (like Aperture, Lightroom etc and even Apple Photos through an extension).

Version 1.5 (still in Beta) has improved this adding the ability to overwrite PSD's and well as improving TIFF as an exchange format (the current MAS version is still a little limited in this regard).

We also have plans to develop our own DAM (digital assets management) application later which will integrate seamlessly with Affinity Photo.
