Elliott
Downloaded the Affinity Designer Windows Beta yesterday (27/09/2016) and found every time I zoom in or out (using the zoom tool or by navigating to the view menu and zooming from there) the application crashes. I receive an error message which says: "An Unhandled Exception has occurred and the application cannot continue. The Crash Reference dialogue will be displayed when the application is restarted. Code: 0x80070057" Upon restarting, the message is: "Affinity Designer has been restarted after a serious error. The error report will now be sent. Reference: 1690be94-851f-46ae-928d-8fd98b7dcbf4" Anyone else having this problem?
Staff Chris B Posted September 28, 2016 Staff Share Posted September 28, 2016 Hi Elliott, I've been unable to reproduce this so far. I'm sure we had an issue a while back with zooming but it has been fixed for a while. Can you close the app down and open it again with the Ctrl key held down. Once a dialog appears, can you click Clear and then see if you can get it to crash again. Mark Ingram
Hi Elliot, I don't think your crash report has arrived on our servers. Could you take a look in the following directory for me, and upload the latest file to this thread? %APPDATA%\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports\
Elliott
Hi Chris + Mark, Error still occurs after clearing data. I've attached the two latest crash reports to this post. Elliott
Update: The error doesn't present itself in "Web" or "Device" documents, only in "Print" and "Photo". Also, in "Print" and "Photo" docs I am able to zoom using Ctrl + Scroll wheel, just not using the zoom tool or through the view menu. Cheers
Mark Ingram
Thanks for the crash dumps. I can see where the crash occurred, but I'm struggling to reproduce it! What documents did you create? Just a normal A4 page? What units did you use? What monitors and screen resolutions do you have?
Elliott
Plain A4 page initially, mm as the units - crash seems to occur when creating any print or photo doc (I've tried lots of different variations). Screen resolution is 1920 x 1280 pixels - Microsoft Surface 3.
Mark Ingram
OK, interesting, we have a Surface 3 here so I will test it on that. For you it crashes if you use the View menu, or you scroll with CTRL + mouse? What about pinch to zoom on the screen?
Mark Ingram
OK, it's not a Surface 3, it's a Surface 4, but I'm trying it anyway...
Mark Ingram
It works fine on the Surface Pro 4. I'll try to put in a pre-emptive fix, as I can't actually reproduce it here.
Mark Ingram
Do you have another monitor hooked up to your Surface Pro 3?
Elliott
No, only using the device's screen. And I'm able to zoom using Ctrl + Scroll wheel without any crashing, but if I use the view menu or Ctrl + then i get the crash.
Mark Ingram
I've put a hopeful fix in for this in the next build (1.5.0.19, should be out today all being well), let me know how you get on!
Elliott
Just installed the latest build and the issue is fixed! Cheers guys! Patrick Connor and Mark Ingram

superhawk
I am going to bump this topic because I've been experiencing this issue a ton lately. Crash on zoom. Specifically crash on zoom with CTRL + scroll wheel. Happens a good 5-10 times a day. Affinity usually saves my work as recovery temp files but if I am doing something tricky or complex I save a lot and it can be pretty hairy. Any idea
