jkehoe
Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share how Affinity Photo and Designer helped me set up my cover art file for publishing my iBook onto the iBooks Store. The original digital photo had been edited in Apple's Aperture over a year ago but one version was saved as a .tiff. Here's a brief outline of my workflow: Open the .tiff in Affinity Photo and save it in .afphoto file format (just my preference to do that) Add a New Live Filter Layer > High Pass Filter (I really like this tool) Make minor adjustments and save it Open that same file in Affinity Designer and save it in .afdesign format Add layers as needed to build text boxes, keeping each box in its own layer Ensure that the font type matches that used in the iBook project File > Export to jpg in best quality setting The file dimensions are pertinent only to this case as it pertains to an iBook that was built using Apple's iBooks Author app. Best Regards! Staff Chris B Posted October 3, 2016 Staff Share Posted October 3, 2016 Hi jkehoe, I think the image is really nice. If I had any criticism it would be against the solid white shapes. I can see why you have done this however there are plenty of options when displaying text over photographic backgrounds. If you made the white shape transparent to show some of the background through, it won't break the design as much but it will help define the text. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on publishing the book! :) My Strawberry Monkey and David 2 Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
My Strawberry Monkey
Hi Jkehoe, I agree with Chris with regards to the white boxes, actually I question whether you need them at all if you have the right font and size. I've made a quick mockup in Affinity Photo. Obviously it's a different picture but I wanted to show what you could do with a bigger & bolder font and and by playing around with the arrangement of the text and combined with the right image it looks like a book you would find on the bookshelves....
