Affinity Photo Customer Beta (1.5 - Beta 5)

Recommended Posts

Hi Andy,

Could you or one of your team members please respond to let me know if my request for the ability to hide the left and right studio panels independently as per my post here will be implemented in the 1.5 beta cycle?

This is really frustrating for me especially on smaller screens when I am on the laptop.  I love the Affinity product line and this will really really make me even happier.

Thanks

Nana

I received an error while editing a raw photo through Apple Photos. I edited two other photos with no problems.

" Failed to save document: Apple Photos Document"   I don't think the file was open by any other application.

This might not be very helpful because I don't remember exactly the step or edit I did, but I thought I'd send this anyway. I will try to duplicate later today.

New bug?

If i create a new raster/grid layer in AP 1.5 Beta 5, then i can't delete this layer. There is no way to release or delete this layer. Editing this file in AD 1.5 Beta 15 will be the same result.

Editing this file in Windows-Version (AD 1.5 Beta 18) works better. In this version, i can release this raster/grid layer, but saving this file and opening it in AP 1.5 Beta 5 (Mac) results in crashing AP 1.5 Beta 5.

BTW: There are many missing translations in the german version. A few functions are translated to german and others are not. In my opinion it is better to have only one language. English or german, but "denglish" is very irritating  ;)

Not sure if this is the right place, but I downloaded and tried the beta on a Macbook Pro 13" and I couldn't see access the tools. Please check the attachment

It you go to Views -> Customise Tools -> Number of Columns -> 2 then it should be better.

We should probably do something better though.

I've been playing around with the Half-tone filter and it's interesting... however it makes me really wish that a filter for doing engraving/etching effects would be incorporated into Affinity Photo. I know there's some Photoshop Plugins that do this, not sure if they work with AP, I do see that they cost more than AP itself. And I see Adobe Photoshop Actions that do this and some are free. Again, it'd be terrific to see this capability native in AP. – Timber

Not sure this has been covered.Shifted from the wrong beta thread.

From Apple Photo, use the edit in affinity extension, edit away etc. Decide to leave the image alone and un altered and revert back to Photo by closing down Affinity and the Photo window retains a previous edit to action before continuing.

Is the layer linking the same as clipping one layer to another in photoshop?

Clipping is currently possible.

I guess that linking is intended to move/transform layers together.

You decide which layers are linked so AP can retain their relationship.

This could be useful when you do not want to group two layer for some reasons, but keep their relative distance intact while moving.

Hi howasparty,

and welcome here …  :)

Unfortunately, that’s just the way the beta is validated. In order to run the beta versions, you will have to install the Mac App Store version directly in the Applications folder. Please have a look, for instance, at this thread:

Cheers, Alex  :)

Tested the 32-Bit mode in production now. Three major points. Other than that and some blending mode issues it worked remarkably well.

  1. 3D LUT layers don't properly work.
They seem to just explode in a mess of gamma mismatches and grey goo.

  2. 32-Bit viewer settings aren't saved with the document
This creates confusion and adds the need to write a documentation before sharing a file.

  3. Live Filters (Gaussian Blur)
Results in a tiled mess (either grey or black) when flattened or exported to lower bit depths.
Results in black dots in EXR export.

I reproduced the Live Filter error using one of my own images. (Attached)

Hey Frank,

Thanks for the heads up - we are aware of a number of things which are currently totally hosed in 32-bit mode - I hadn't seen the Gaussian one though..

I'll get on it..

Andy.

ps. Any chance you could demo the LUT thing (ie. with example LUTs, files)? It will be a simple bug, but I need to see it to fix it..
