kenlai
Hello, Can I copy or move an element (like a rectangle) to a new position accurately by entering the x and y offset? This is similar to the Transform : Move option in Illustrator. Thanks, Ken
Raskolnikov
I personally would like to enter anyhow the relative distances in x, y and degreess to move any object :) so i don't have to calculate it on the transform panel.
MacPinguin
Ken, you can do this by simply going to the transform panel, click behind the units ("mm" or "px") in one of the value boxes and add your operation, like "+100" to move it to the right. Divide, multiply and subtract works also. To copy an object with offset, you just have to duplicate it (Cmd+J) before.
Staff MattP Posted November 4, 2014 Staff Share Posted November 4, 2014 You can go to the transform panel and type '+= 5px' for example in any field to add 5 pixels to the value, if that's what you mean?
Staff MattP Posted November 4, 2014 Staff Share Posted November 4, 2014 MacPinguin beat me to it! ;)
MacPinguin
@MattP: I see, You have already implemented the simpler notation, "+5" instead of "+= 5"?
Staff Ben Posted November 4, 2014 Staff Share Posted November 4, 2014 Not sure that's right - I think we decided you have to use "+=" to add to the current value. The reason for this is that "-5" could be interpreted as either a fixed value of -5, or "current value minus 5". So, we decided it should be consistent across the board, so you have to use +=, -=, *= and /=. If you enter "+5", the plus sign is effectively ignored and it is treated as a positive value of 5. Saying that, I've just noticed that there's a bug with "+5", in that it is not setting the value - I'll fix that soon. MacPinguin
OK, more exactly: if you replace the content of a value field, so that it shows just "+=50" before you hit return, you have to do it in the += notation. But if you add the term to the content, so that it shows "100 mm+50" and then hit return, it also works correctly. From other apps (cc, fh) i’m used to add the field mathematic to the current content.
kenlai
Thanks guys. I am so used to the Move function that I did not try adding values in the transform dialog. It works fine for me now.
