paolo.limoncelli
Waiting for the path offset feature I'd like to share my quick&dirty way to do it. It's pretty easy and gives good control on resulting shapes. Hope you'll find it useful! JohnMcK
That's useful Paolo. On the subject of offset, how about offset snapping in future? IE, instead of snapping to an edge, snap to an amount (eg X=12mm Y=15 mm) away from snapping point. Or is that too much like CAD?
paolo.limoncelli
Probably the feature you described is too much "CADdish"... But never say never! :) I'd be happy enough with an easy modal that allows you to define a delta, direction (inside/outside) and joins. retrograde
I hope when this feature does come to designer, we have an option to use a live preview slider. Starting in the centre, going right creates an offset on the outside, going left creates an offset on the inside. Maybe with a corner rounding tick box. Click, drag, done. ... as opposed to Ai's implementation of inputting some ridiculous number that has no obvious relevant meaning and is ultra sensitive... .0012 doh, .0014 doh, .0013... Quote http://www.kevincreative.com https://www.behance.net/kevincreative https://dribbble.com/kevincreative https://www.instagram.com/kevincreative/
Kathrin
Hi together, sorry I dont know for what I can use this technique? Can you explain it to me please - Thank you. I am a vector newbie :-) Yours Kathrin
paolo.limoncelli
Path offset is used when you need to create an outline of your main shape, maintaining the distance between fixed. Useful with convex irregular shapes and/or concave geometries. This is a pretty stupid sample of what I mean... Anytime you want a machine to cut around a shape edge you want to use a path offset for this. Quote LEARN AFFINITY DESIGNER TODAY.
