Simple cropping question - how do I crop a single layer???

Recommended Posts

I am able to use the cropping tool to crop the entire document/ image...

but how can I easily crop just one layer?

Please see the attached screen shot.  I want to crop out the white space at the bottom of this image, but can't figure out an easy way to do this.

Thanks for your help

Hi redcram,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

There's no specific tool to crop just a single layer. One way to work around this is to use the Rectangle Tool to create a rectangle over the part of the image you want to be visible, then simply drag the image layer over the rectangle layer in the Layers panel to use the rectangle as a clipping layer. Although the rest of the image isn't visible it's still there. If you want to get rid of it select the rectangle layer in the Layers panel and select Rasterise.... The result is just the part of the image that was visible previously inside the rectangle area exactly as if it was cropped by the rectangle.

redcram,

Since there can be many different layer types in an Affinity document, implementing a layer cropping tool would not be as simple as you might think.
