Hey folks, quick question as I'm starting to become more active and don't want to spam:

Is it better for me to post individual pieces of work as separate threads in the forum, or is it better to make one single thread where you can find all of my work and keep adding to it? I've seen a few people do this but wasn't sure if there are any rules regarding how often you can post things.

Many thanks!

melior64, I don’t think there are any rules, or even guidelines, about how to post multiple works.

As you say, some people post multiple times to the same thread and others create multiple threads.
Personally I post my stuff as individual posts as they are simply experimental things that I thought people might want to see before I move on to something else. Also, it makes it a little easier for anyone trying to find them as they can search the titles for a particular keyword and go straight there rather than scroll though loads of other posts.
However, if you want to make your posts into some kind of ‘portfolio’ then a multi-post thread will probably be better for you, but it’s worth noting that if you keep posting the same sort of thing then some people may get bored with the repetition and just end up ignoring the thread completely. In this case, any new original work may also be ignored which might be a shame.

My recommendation would be – and this is totally unofficial as I have no affiliation with the Affinity team or Serif – to create a thread for each type of different work that you do. E.g. One thread for composition work, another for poster illustrations, another for magazine layouts, etc. This way, people who aren’t interested in one type of work still have a chance of seeing your newest creations as they can review the threads they are interested in and ignore everything else.
If you create threads with titles such as ‘melior64 – Composition Work’ or ‘melior64 – Book Covers’ then people will know what’s there and can react as they see fit.

All that said though, it’s really a case of “horses for courses”; just do whatever feels right for you. If you do anything wrong or strange then I’m sure someone will point it out.

If you post your work to a single thread, people that like your style/work can just follow the thread and get notified anytime you add another masterpiece.

If you post new work to a new post every time it gets harder to track your posts or to go back and find something you may want to steal admire again later.

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Regarding that issue with png files:

I have found that jpg is working mostly without problems. PNG mostly create problems.

Is it really the file format? Or does anything else triggers that error posted earlier?

Would be still nice to know what that error message means...

If I used Pinterest, I'd follow you too - I just have a 'thing' about sites that badger me to join! If it let me just browse and do whatever I felt like in a non-intrusive way, I'd probably enjoy it and join up, but the fact that it nags me to sign up/login at every single page makes me angry enough that I'm determined to not join up, even though I want to! I'm sure there's a saying about this including the words 'nose', 'spite' and 'face'... ;)

I hate pinterest with a passion, it basically spams your image searches. Fortunately there's an extension that hides it all, it's called "Unpinterested!". Someone said Behance is only for Adobe stuff. You can post whatever you want on there, even natural media like pencil drawings or paintings so Affinity stuff is fine. I post the odd bit of my AD scribbles, not that many look at it!

I am at a loss to understand why some people find it so hard to follow a simple, clear instruction.

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

These are not my own words but I sure like this quote.

We have many many pages of amazing threads that prove people understand what is needed. I hope this extra guidance will help everyone understand what we hope to see posted on the forums, and we can all enjoy the results.

Is work produced using Affinity Publisher allowed to be posted in the Share your Work forum or is it only pictures that are allowed?

It’s ‘Share your work’, not ‘Share your pictures’!

I know it is, but I posted my work of enlarging a beautiful picture produced using AI and placing it on an A3 canvas and producing a PDF document and it got stopped from being displayed.

So I am asking whether work produced using Affinity Publisher is allowed to be posted in the Share your Work forum if it is not a picture.

It seems a straightforward question and I hope that I will receive an answer so that I know the situation.

Enlarging something that is not your own work is not really a good demonstration of the Affinity applications, in my opinion. Neither is placing the enlargement on a canvas, and producing a PDF.

The real work, and art and beauty if there was any, was done by the AI, not you. (Again, in my opinion.)

So is it really "your" work?

I think that's probably why you were asked not to post that kind of project.

This is the same old argument!  — "Share your work" is for sharing your work created using Affinity
IMHO, you need to have done a bit more that type some words as a "prompt" in another app, then changed the size of the result and placed it "prettily" into an Affinity document. The work is not your own, and the use of Affinity is minimal and basic.

Sorry if I added to this problem. I just use AI to help me in my creations cause I can't find a suitable image that works with what I have in mind.

Personally I don't like the use of generative AI at all, but, there is a big difference between using it as part of a work you create yourself, and just taking a single AI generated image, resizing it, putting it on a larger canvas, then claiming it as your work using Affinity.

No, you haven't. In fact, I had not known of your use of AI until I read your post to which I am now replying.

For the avoidance of doubt, I did not claim the production of the picture as my work: I had authored the prompt, so I was like a patron saying what I wanted to an artist. The patron can provide as much or as little information as the patron chooses.

At the time that I made the post that was removed the stated rules were different from what they are now. I consider that my post may have been of interest to beginners, but it is not my forum.

There is a whole thread on the issues.

I am only replying about this here for the avoidance of doubt as a result of the post to which I am replying.

Like I said before, I just use it when I can't seem to find a suitable image to start work from. I use one as a base for a character, then use a different AI to swap the face to the actual actor/actress that I haven in mind for the character.

Well, it may well be if one is a beginner.

Yes, you are correct. I regard the picture as art and beautiful but that is my subjective opinion and I am not an art expert.

I now have a framed print of the picture.

I never claimed that the picture was my work.

My work was enlarging the picture and preparing a PDF document.

At the time, I thought it a perfectly reasonable post in the Share your Work forum as something that I had done using an Affinity product.

Since then, and as a result of my post, the stated rules have been changed.

In retrospect many of my posts in the Share your Work forum do not conform to the now stated rules.

For example, the following, as I had used Affinity Designer to produce PDF documents that included items not produced in Affinity Designer.

Language-independent signs for art galleries - Share your work - Affinity | Forum (serif.com)

Nevertheless, Affinity Designer was useful to me as it allowed me to produce the PDF documents and thereby have PDF documents to upload to the website of the virtual print house and obtain A3 size prints produced on a laser printer on 350 gsm paper.

There are plenty of other places that you can post random images etc that you happen to "like" of think "interesting"!

At the time, it appeared that what anyone produced using Affinity products was wanted for inclusion in the Share your work forum.

So, before the rules were changed, the following thread seemed perfectly acceptable, yet under the present rules it may well not be.

I don't particularly wish to discuss this yet again! You posted in this thread, mentioning a picture in your second post here!

As far as your first post here goes I think Alfred made it clear, it is "Share your work", (not just pictures) using Affinity software. so I can't see any reason why it should not include Publisher. There are people who share posters, flyers and so on, but images probably tend to lend themselves more to sharing than do text based items. I would think that there would be no problem with sharing a particularly well produced booklet or other document, that showed good use of Publisher. However, I doubt if simply pasting a bit of text you generated with AI into a document would be considered sharing your work, or a significant use of Affinity software!
