JonathanBowen
Hello. I want to create a circle and the top half of the circle needs to be black and the bottom half of the circle needs to be another color. I'm using stroke since the inside of the circle will be white. Do I create two circles? What's the best practice? Thanks.
Staff Callum Posted August 15, 2016 Staff Share Posted August 15, 2016 Hi JonathanBowen, If you draw your circle then go to the top of the app and click the Stroke button (see attached). In the popup window that appears after clicking Stroke you should see a Gradient tab. This will allow you to make half of your circle one colour and the other half another :) C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP. PixelPest
Just a small hint. If you want a sudden color change you can try Type: "Conical" instead of "Linear" and place the middle point outside the circle - otherwise there will be a interpolation/transition where the color changes: Cheers P. markw, anon1, Rossicoe and 1 other
Rossicoe
@PixelPest is there a way to achieve this effect using more than 2 colors like in the picture I've posted?
Gear maker
Rossicoe, just like PixelPest suggested you could use the conical gradient but with the center in the center of the circle. Use a start and stop point in the gradient for every color and if you zoom in when placing them so that they are really close the transition will be pretty sharp. Or, you can make wedges used behind a clipping mask of the circle. There are other ways but the top is probably the easiest. Personally I like the bottom better but it's a bit more work. And under the right conditions you could have an antialiasing issues. Pluses and minuses in all ways. Hope that helps. PixelPest
I´d go another route in this particular case: In essence it´s the partial angled circle assign color rotate 45° - doubled - assign color - double - assign color etc..... Gear maker
JimmyJack very good! I would have never thought of that but it's really clean and simple. JimmyJack 1 Quote iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) with macOS Sierra
