creating selection using pen tool in designer

Hello everyone.Could you please help me in creating a selection using pen tool in affinity designer

The Pen Tool is used for drawing. If you want to create a selection, switch to the Pixel Persona and use the selections tools there.

The pen tool is often used as a selection tool, at least in Photoshop. I don't know how or if it can used that way in Designer but I would be surprised if it can't.

Affinity Designer doesn't support transforming Pen Tool paths into selections as it is a vector drawing application. Our photo editing app Affinity Photo does support converting paths to selections :)

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

As Callum said this feature is currently only available in Affinity Photo (convert paths to selections and masks).

Here's a tip to work around the problem in Designer: draw your shape with the Pen Tool as usual, fill it with any colour and no stroke, then to "convert" it to a selection press and hold ⌘ (cmd) and click over the object's thumbnail in the Layers panel. Affinity will create a selection from the layer contents.

The create a selection from the layer's content feature is really useful. However, I keep expecting to find it as an item in the Layer menu because invoking it with a ⌘-click isn't obvious & I don't use it enough to remember that is how it is done.

 

I don't know if others have the same problem -- I am old & my memory is not what it once was -- but I think it would be helpful to add it to the Layer menu, or to the contextual menu in the Layers panel.

 

Anybody else think this is worthy of a feature request?
