Dynamic Font Loading/Availability

Recommended Posts

I would love to see fonts that are added to the system dynamically loaded in the open Affinity programs and available for use immediately. It is very cumbersome to have to save all your open documents and reopen Affinity to make use of new fonts.

Thanks for the programs. They are awesome.

+1

Serif PagePlus does this. It would be good to see Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo doing the same.

Even the free LibreOffice Writer has this functionality.

Go to Affinity Designer Preferences, Miscellaneous section and press Reset Fonts to reload the fonts without having to close documents/Affinity.

This is yet another of those options which is rather too well hidden! Having said that, it works fine for adding a font but the current AD on Windows beta version crashes if I unload/uninstall a font and then visit the point in the font name dropdown list where the font previously appeared; it also crashes if I try to modify a text object which used that font.

We are aware of a few font issues on Windows but i'm not sure sure if that one in particular was already logged. The Mac version also has some issues when fonts are activated/managed through external apps (font managers). Sometimes it crashes. Hopefully all this should be improved as we move forward. The Windows Beta is still quite recent too and getting it to work on the myriad hardware configs available isn't a trivial task. Bear with us while we get there.
