Mrtx Posted June 23 Posted June 23 I need assistance with merging selected nodes in Affinity Designer. I am familiar with Illustrator, but I am unsure of the process within Affinity Designer. Could you please provide guidance? Quote
Ldina Posted June 23 Posted June 23 If you want the node in the right curve to be on top of the left hand node, select it with the Node tool and drag it over the left hand node. Snapping will help align them perfectly, if needed. If not, they will be joined by adding a straight line segment between them. Select both curves with the Move tool to make them both active selections. Select the Node tool and draw a rectangle around both of the nodes you wish to connect, thus selecting them. Once both nodes are selected, click on Join Curves in the context toolbar. This will combine them into one single curve. EDIT: That doesn't seem to join those two nodes at that point, but it does join the two curves and convert them into a single layer. To move those nodes together, you have to highlight them both before moving them to keep them together. I'd have to experiment more to see if they can be joined as a single node. There's probably a way, and if so, somebody here knows. Another option is to expand both strokes. Select them both, and Geometry > Add, which will make them a single shape. RE4LLY Posted June 23 Posted June 23 A node can only ever have two connections not more, so in this case you cannot join the right node to the left node as the left node already has two connections. If you just want to combine the two curves as one layer you can merge them together using the Merge Curve option. For that select your curves, then right click, go to Geometry and then select Merge Curves R C-R, Pšenda and Ldina 3 Quote

As explained, that is because a node can join no more than 2 curve segments. So if the curves are both open, their ends can be joined to create a single curve, but anything that could connect more than 2 segments cannot be done. Try it with one open & one closed curve & you will se that the Join Curves button is dimmed out & cannot be clicked. Maybe it could be replaced by merging curves using Layer/Geometry/Merge Curves, or grouping them.
