AlanPickup Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I am doing an activity newsletter which I do every month, using the previous months issue, and updating changes. I have had 3 instances when clicking on the add image icon where a panel appears asking if I want to link the image to keep the file smaller. If I click yest the program just keeps going continually and not loading the image. It is then locked and I have to close it using task manager. Opening the file again I get the recovery file, which fortunately has saved any changes. Using fully upto date windows 11 home getting files from one drive and have no problems if I select no and embed the image. Hangman Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Hi @AlanPickup, I would strongly recommend, if linking files (as I'm sure Serif would), that you have all files located on your internal Hard Drive to avoid just this sort of issue. AlanPickup Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 Apologies I have probably misled on this - yes they are in my one drive folder but all files are present on my PC and Laptops, just use one drive for syncing and do not work from the cloud. Just seem to have had some issues since the last upgrade. Quote Alan Pickup Windows 11 Home all Affinity suite of Apps PC and Gigabyte Laptop 16gb Ram and Nvidia GTX1660 Super on each.
Hangman Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I think, in general, syncing with cloud drives is a big part of the problem. You should find that if you disable syncing while working on the file, the issue goes away unless there is a specific issue with 2.6.3, but having said that, if you had no issues in 2.6.2 working this way, then I'm unsure what has changed between the two releases but maybe someone from Serif can provide some feedback. AlanPickup Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 As stated I have no problem embedding the images so must be something to do with that option to link the image, which is something I have never had before. scharmach Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Hi @AlanPickup, I ran into the same problem today. I was able to solve this with setting "Prefer Linked" in the document's settings ahead of placing my images. It said "Prefer Embedded" before. So to speak, I have changed the setting that the prompt tries to change, but then hangs, manually. The setting can be found here: 'File' > 'Document Setup' > 'Document'. This led me to the solution (the relevant part is under "To set the default content placement policy"): https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Media/embeddingVsLinking.html&title=Embedding vs linking After that, the prompt didn't reappear, and I was able to link images in my file without any issues. If I just carry on with the embed there is no problem, the trouble with link is I move from PC to laptop and without embedded the images are not present Quote Alan Pickup Windows 11 Home all Affinity suite of Apps PC and Gigabyte Laptop 16gb Ram and Nvidia GTX1660 Super on each.
