I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the chapters in my book to layout the way chapters in books do. I've fiddled with all sorts of things. Here's a very simple start. Two chapters. The first is one page long, so the second should start on page 3 on a right page. It's on a right page, but starts on page 4 (even though it's told to continue the page numbers) and is on a right side page, BUT, there's no blank in between. Help!

Hi @Dennis Merritt and welcome to the forums. An afbook file doesn't contain your pages, you'd need to also attach at least one of your afpub chapter files, too.

I recommend reviewing the "Splitting a book into chapter documents" section of my Publisher manual which you can download as a PDF free from this forum. You will need to choose the Stray Pages > Pad and Stray Pages > Merge Where Possible commands.

Thanks for the reply! So I got it to look like I wanted by making all the chapters have even numbers of pages, and NO pad, and NO merge. I then went in and changed the first short chapter (1 page) removing the blank second page. To see if Publisher would handle it. I said YES pad, and YES merge. And it started the second chapter on page 2 instead of 3, and didn't insert a blank, but did correctly have it on a right page. I've attached the output PDF file and the first two chapters. (I've downloaded your book, looking at it now, a very impressive piece of work...)

I hope a moderator will notice this thread and move it to the Questions section of the forums. ‘Share your work’ is for … er … sharing your work (so that your fellow forum members can admire and/or comment on it).
