Product: Publish/Designer/Photo
Platform: macOS
Version: 2.6.2 (latest as of Apr 2025)

Issue:
When pressing saving a file, modal "Save document..." window is shown and immediately forces focus, even though I already switched into another window (app), pulling focus away from the current active application. This disrupts multitasking.

Expected Behavior:
Saving should occur in the background without disrupting focus. The UI should not steal active window focus or interrupt workflows of other applications. Saving dialog should be app-bound-only and so, happening only in the background.

Actual Behavior:
The modal "Saving..." window appears and becomes the foreground window even if one has switched to another application, breaking continuity.

Impact:

  • Interrupts workflow during multitasking.

  • Forces users to wait or re-click into their other working application.

  • Affects productivity in environments requiring rapid context switching.

Request:
Please modify the save behavior so that the progress indication does not forcibly take focus, or offer an option to run saves non-modally/in the background.

This issue significantly hampers efficiency and should be treated as a usability defect.

Note: Obviously, the namings of the progress should be "Saving document" and not "Save document".

Hi @mocny,

I've moved this thread over to the bugs section. This is currently true with all app progress bars (E.G Export, Save, Focus merge progress) and is currently a known issue currently logged with the development team, I've bumped the issue with your report.

Great to read this. Possibly, it would be best to have 'progress bar' on the bottom bar of the application, so in the case of not switching between windows, one is able to work on the project without interruption, rather than to wait for the dialog to disappear (so it should be effectively always as the background process, with the progress shown in the bottom bar and option to cancel it 🅧). Current file size would be also handy, since I often find myself checking the size after saving in the Finder ;) Thanks.
