Hi @Mary N and welcome to the forums,

Several enhancements were introduced to page layouts in Publisher 2.6, 'Page Move Options' being one, which can be found under the Pages panel hamburger menu.

One of the default settings under the new 'Page Move Options' is 'Anchor Toward Spine', however, because this is set as a default, it means that when inserting a new page it orients page content towards the spine (as the name suggests), which, while useful in certain circumstances has caught some people out because this wasn't a default behaviour in v2.5.7.

To rectify the issue with your file, leave 'Anchor Toward Spine' selected, add 1 new page after page 20 (the last page where the footnotes appear correctly at the bottom of the page), untick 'Anchor Toward Spine' from the 'Page Move Options' and delete the newly added page.

This should reset your footnotes so they appear at the bottom of the page.

There have been several requests for 'Anchor Toward Spine' to be disabled by default to avoid scenarios such as this.

Let us know whether the above works as intended with your file.

Hi Hangman

Many thanks, and for replying right away. It did work the first time but not subsequently. I've tried turning it off and on again and inserting apges and trying again but it hasn't worked.

I don't have sections in the document but lots of master pages.

What else can I do please?

Best wishes, Mary

Hi @Mary N,

When you say it didn't work subsequently, are you inserting additional pages, or is it not working with the document you uploaded, and if so, are there specific pages where it's not working, assuming that after correcting the file the first time, you leave 'Anchor Toward Spune' turned off?

Hi @Mary N,

Many thanks for the file...

From the Page Move Options Menu (via the hamburger menu in the Pages panel):

  1. Enable Anchor Toward Spine and Reflow Pages (which are both currently off)
  2. Add 1 Page After Page 15 (labelled Page 16) using the 1. Introduction Master
  3. Turn Anchor Toward Spine off, but leave Reflow Pages enabled
  4. Delete the newly added page, Page 16 (labelled Page 17)

I've attached a corrected version, though you'll likely need to relink the linked graphics via Resource Manager.

Hi Hangman,

That's brilliant, it worked thank you.

Except some of the maps have now flipped - hrrr....

Can you help with this too?

Best wishes, Mary

Hi @Mary N,

I've had a quick look through, and they all look the same apart from their position on the page, owing to the Figure References now appearing below rather than above the maps. Is that what you're referring to? If so, and you want the Figure References to still appear above the Maps, I would go through and move these manually; otherwise, you'll go round in circles correcting one thing only to affect another.
