I'll talk about two things that are very annoying from an artist's perspective about Affinity's Color Wheel tool.

With the Color Wheel, there are two main modes and they come with two problems:

1. Triangle mode: Can't lock rotation. It's need to be in stable state!
2. Square mode: There is no HSV color space. And HSV is very essential!

These combination of those two made the Color Wheel unusable for Artist! I can't use Triangle mode neither Square mode!

P/s:

There are 2 Topics that have mentioned these issues, but one is old and only talks about the Triangle Color Wheel Rotate of V1 on iPad while I want to mention the Color Wheel of V2 and later of the entire Affinity Suite.

The other Topic includes another issue about the rotate tool.

Therefore, I want to create this topic to specifically summarize only the Color Wheel issues in the latest Affinity V2 Suite from the artist's perspective.

To fde101, Old Bruce and Alfred: quote - "I wonder how often Michelangelo and Picasso used the HSV color space... " - unquote.

I feel offended by fde101 comment, Haha emote by Old Bruce and Alfred!
And I am very angry!

To be clear, I learned digital painting based on the same oil painting technique as traditional painting from the very beginning.

This technique is basic and it requires manual color selection, no color blending mode is used.

And the software I learned uses HSV color space (Square Color Wheel), and other software I use also uses the same color space in the Color Wheel.
Or at least the Triangular Color Wheel is fixed in position (no rotation).

However, Affinity only has HSL color space in the Color Wheel selection panel.
I can adapt, but it really messes up my muscle memory.

Furthermore, do you think Michelangelo and Picasso had to worry about the Color Wheel when using computer painting software? Did they work for a company that required dozens of drawings per month for an average salary?

Currently, I use the black & white to color drawing process, which is a common request from most customers to be able to quickly edit and finishing paintings.

This process requires special color saturation based on HSV color space, and a color blending mode (personal secret).

I hope I have made it clearer about the necessity of my request.

Up to now, I have only used Affinity for further editing, no painting.
I use other software that is more specialized for digital painting to draw.
This is just a suggestion to improve Affinity.

Finally, I want to emphasize to you that I do not want to answer any questions or receive comments from a negative person like you in the future.
Please have your self-respect and dignity.

I think the point I was mainly getting at was the generalization implied by this.  You make it sound like this is something which impacts ALL artists and that the tool is useless for producing artwork because of it.  This is not the case.  Not all artists require the things you are requesting.

That was never meant to imply that they are not things which impact your particular workflow or the more specific type of work that you do.

Based on that, it does sound like you have a specific use case which requires this feature which not all software has (with the Affinity suite currently among those which do not have it).  This does not mean that artists in general require this feature, but it does mean that for your particular way of working, you do.

There is nothing wrong with that, and it is a perfectly reasonable request to be making, but I've seen far too many threads like this one in which people make blanket statements on behalf of a large group of users when they quite clearly apply to only a subset of that group, and that clear generalization of its impact to a larger user community than that actually affected is something that should probably be tempered a bit.

You have just uncovered a significant and self-destructive phenomenon on this forum, as you have no doubt sensed yourself:

I don't believe they are creative professionals, nor do they sell their work or operate at any serious level. Yet they seem compelled to post insulting or self-aggrandising comments, demonstrating that they are here purely for leisure and use Affinity as a hobby. Often, they have no real understanding of what they are talking about, and even less understanding of how serious creatives work or how professional environments operate. Why they feel the need to post foolish remarks directed at Serif’s customers is beyond me. I can sense your irritation and indignation. Take note, Serif — your forum is driving serious customers away. This is exactly the kind of nonsense that potential customers don't want to hear. All of this can only drive genuine professionals away from this forum — and from Affinity itself.

Serif responds to absolutely none of the suggestions made here as part of their forum strategy, though at least they refrain from posting anything offensively poor. You may be fortunate enough that they read and take note - I think they do. So far, so good. As for actual implementation? Rarely. Also, I believe that part of Affinity has remained unchanged since the beginning. Serif has a poor track record of implementing features and then letting them drift without significant improvements for years.

Nonetheless, I thank you for voicing your needs here and for sharing your knowledge.

I think you mean Serif has a good track record of letting features drift without significant improvements for years after implementing them! ;)
