Affinity Publisher background going grey and functionality is then limited

Something is happening in Publisher that is driving me mad and very frustrated, for some reason it seems to change the surrounding background of document and the background of the page to grey, when it does this, features are limited and I can't for instance duplicate pages and there is no obvious way to return to the "black" surround background with full functionality, sometimes I can get it go back by just clicking on the background but other times now.

This is just started happening, and this was an existing document as well.

Why is it doing it, and most importantly, how do I stop it doing it.

Feels like a bug rather than a feature.

@Barrowman Is is only happening with that document or any?

If you open the apps Settings > Performance is Hardware Acceleration enabled? If so, turn it off and set the Display to OpenGL and restart the app to see if this makes a difference in terms of the background grey level/colour.
