Rusack Posted April 25 Posted April 25 The paragraph flows from one frame to another. The paragraph is set to have space before only at column top, but won't work when the paragraph flows to the text frame. If the paragraph starts at the next frame, space before only at column top works fine. Is there any workaround? I don't want to change text frame for every page without heading. Or am I doing something wrong here? Quote
MikeTO Posted April 25 Posted April 25 It's difficult to know without seeing the definition for Base, but try setting Space After to 0, Space Between Same Styles to off, and Sum Space Before and After to Off. Sometimes it's best to explicitly define all of these options rather than leaving them on No Change. I tried these settings and it worked fine for me. Old Bruce Posted April 25 Posted April 25 @Rusack, I am unsure what it is you are needing. Are you wanting the pages to look like this? A constant gap at the top except with a heading? Note that I deleted some lines in the first screenshot so as to have the paragraph end on the left page, and in the second screenshot I have the lines there to be a continued paragraph with the gap. MikeTO Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I don't see any issues with your file. When I open it, I see the space before of 43 pt at the top of the left column as expected. There is no space above any other paragraph, not counting the blank paragraphs which I assume was just because this was a quick test file. There is no space at the top of the second column because that is the continuation of the paragraph from the previous page. Space Before only adds space before the start of a new paragraph. If you want space before the start of text in a text frame, you should use the Text Frame panel and set Insets > Top instead of using Space Before. Rusack Posted April 25 Author Posted April 25 not quite what I needed to be honest, found a workaround using "Float With Text" for a separate text box for heading that I attach to the first word of the first paragraph. Kinda works, but I'm curious why there's no option to get space at the top of the column even if it's not above the first line of the paragraph. That would be a neat feature that I'm sure would be used by certain designers Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I think this might help. Taking care of top gap.afpub I have a Text Frame Baseline grid set to start at one inch. The Paragraph Style for the bulk of the text is set to use the Baseline Grid (only on for the Text Frames, off for the document as a whole. The heading style has the Use Baseline Grid turned off.
