Hello!

This one is hard to explain, but it's just one of those tiny details in Illustrator that makes it sooo much quicker to draw a lot of lines, without clicking a bunch of panels and buttons in between every line.

The requested feature, basically:

  • I have something selected with some Appearance
  • I activate the Pencil Tool (with this new option checked)
  • I draw a new line
  • The new line has the same Appearance as the last selected object

But also:

  • I have the Pencil Tool active
  • I select something (With Ctrl)
  • The Pencil Tool now has that Appearance!
  • If I deselect (Ctrl-click in background), the Pencil Tool still has the last Appearance I selected!
  • Draw new line -- It has the same Appearance as the last object selected.

It's hard to put into words, just how fast you can work, once you get used to this.

Rather than dig around in Swatches, or muckin' about with picker tools, you use the Art you're working on itself, as the color/style palette. And every style you've used so far, is just one click away.

Currently, in Designer, if I draw green line, and then change the color and draw a red line, if I then wish to draw green line again, then these are the options I've found:

  • Select the green line, click the Synchronize Defaults to Selection button, then draw a new line
    • Cumbersome
    • Also, I can't find where to set a Keyboard shortcut for this?
  • Draw the new line in the wrong color, bring out the Style Picker Tool and fix it.
    • But still, the Pencil Tool settings hasn't changed! So now this must be done for all new lines.

There just doesn't seem to be a fast and easy way to make the Pencil Tool have the appearance of an object in the document?! Or am I missing something here? : )

Kind regards

Good job making these awesome Tools! : )

Settings → Shortcuts → Designer popup menu → Edit popup menu → Defaults: Synchronize from Selection

Hm… assigning a shortcut to "Synchronize from Selection" (and to "Revert" to get back to default) is all that it needs. That's what I did long ago.
