duderonomy Posted April 19 Posted April 19 To the Affinity Web site dev team: Should this page be using so much electricity. (so to speak) Why is this page, with no apparent animations or active elements, running  the CPU so hard? Just trying to help. Don't shoot the messenger. 🙂 https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/whats-new Quote
GarryP Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I’m not seeing any noticeable increase in CPU usage when viewing that page in Chrome 135 or Firefox 137 on Windows 10. Could it be possible that your browser is giving you incorrect information? If you can tell us which browser you are using then people can see if they see the same thing as you. Quote
duderonomy Posted April 19 Author Posted April 19 Anything is possible, my friend. 🙂 Safari. It's the only window/tab on my system reporting this. Not even a Threads page is reporting such; and that is the category of page where I would expect to see this before that Affinity docs page. Quote
GarryP Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I can imagine that the page might have been causing high CPU usage if it didn’t load properly for some reason. If the browser kept re-trying over and over again to download/decompress/resize resources/images then that could cause more work for the CPU. But that’s just a guess; it really could have been any 'random' issue. This might be one of those things that was just a weird one-off that never happens again. Maybe people using Safari can try it and see if they get the same thing. Quote
NotMyFault Posted April 19 Posted April 19 It depends which view you are using. the „unread content“ can be quite slow, unless you use „mark all as read“ occasionally so only a reasonable amount of threads get included into the view. It was probably not intended to be used without ever marking older threads as read, or explicitly setting filters. The default shows all threads ever made and consumes too much time and energy. The user is not viewing the forums, NMF, but the What's New page on the main Affinity website. Got me, missed that detail. that page loads instantly for me.  it is severed by a CDN (Amazon Cloud Front), so experience can vary depending on location of the user. Apple Safari adds layers of privacy protection, e.g. hiding the IP address of the client behind Apple proxy CDN. „hide IP Address“ in settings.  https://www.netify.ai/resources/cdn/amazon-cloudfront walt.farrell 1 Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3 Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. duderonomy Posted April 19 Author Posted April 19 FYI. I would have directly & silently shared this with Affinity if they facilitated that type of feedback. I looked a minute. Perhaps "Where does Affinity accept direct reports from Users"  will be my next forum question.  Quote
NotMyFault Posted April 19 Posted April 19 There is a contact us link at the bottom of the forum page, offering email if you need privacy. Good luck. duderonomy 1 Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3 Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps.
