Tristan39 Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) Hi, Why is everything converted to images/bitmaps when I import certain EPS files (Affinity Designer)? EPS example: https://www.freepik.com/premium-vector/cartoon-full-deck-playing-cards-set-with-isolated-cards-poker-solitaire-game-ui-each-card_416838016.htm The only solution I've found to fix this, is to use Photopea.com. Check this vid: Best regards. Tristan Edited April 18 by Tristan39 Quote
GarryP Posted April 19 Posted April 19 See the explanation here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/102800-is-there-any-hope-for-opening-illustrator-eps-files/ The reason was given in 2019, but it's still the same today. Quote
Tristan39 Posted April 22 Author Posted April 22 Okay, thanks for the info 🙂 I've read the posts, but I still don't understand why Affinty Designer can't open these EPS files... Is it a technical problem or a legal issue (patents)? Photopea.com is a free online solution and it works without even having to install any software!!!! Why can't Affinity Designer do this, even though it's paid software that's supposed to be professional? Quote

Possibly a mix of both, with maybe some other considerations. 17 hours ago, Tristan39 said: Photopea.com is a free online solution and it works without even having to install any software!!!! Different organisations have different priorities, design their products to do different things, and do different things for different reasons. 17 hours ago, Tristan39 said: Why can't Affinity Designer do this, even though it's paid software that's supposed to be professional? I can’t answer that question, and I have no interest in getting into another ‘professional versus otherwise’ discussion. mopperle 1 Quote

It's not just Affinity apps that do this. Often patents or outrages fees inhibit the addition of features to a program. For video editing on Windows it's often professional Apple codecs that are missing, due to the reasons above. It's frustrating for sure, but not always to be blamed on -in this case- Affinity. Isn't history full of paid outrages, e.g. slavery, blackmail, torture,… or 'simply' industries/politics that harm the individual, society or the environment?
