Try selecting the objects in the Layers panel – they’re still there. If you draw a new artboard, they’ll become visible again. Serif will have to clarify whether this is a bug, an unconsidered scenario, or something else.

By the way, I’ve noticed that if you select the artboard (in the layers panel) and press DELETE, you’re prompted with a confirmation like the one below. But if you use the context menu like you did, it deletes it immediately.
